How to Activate a Wyse 5070 Thin Client Running Windows 10 2016 LTSB with a Windows 10 2019 LTSC Digital Product Key

This article explains how to activate the Windows 10 2016 LTSB (Redstone 1) operating system on Wyse 5070 devices that have a Windows 10 2019 LTSC (Redstone 5) digital product key.

As of October 3, 2019, all Wyse 5070 Windows devices ship with a Redstone 5 DPK (digital product key) in the BIOS. This DPK can be used to activate both Redstone 1 and Redstone 5 versions of the operating system that are supported on the 5070. Customers who have created a custom image that is based on older Redstone 1 images may see devices that do not activate successfully with the Redstone 5 DPK included on newer devices because of missing Microsoft updates.

For the Redstone 1 operating system to activate using a Redstone 5 DPK, it must be version 14393.2551 or later.

Check the Version

1. Click the Start Menu.
2. Open the Settings app.

3. Click the System icon in the upper left.

4. Click the About option at the bottom of the left pane.
5. Locate the OS Build and confirm it is 14393.2551 or later.

6. If the OS Build is not 14393.2551 or later, download the latest update and apply it to one or more thin clients.

Activate the Operating System

The operating system activates itself if it has internet access. It reaches out and talks to Microsoft's activation server within 24 hours of being connected to the internet. Activation can also be forced by opening Command Prompt, typing slmgr.vbs /ato, and then running the command. Forced activation requires admin access on the thin client.
