If a HDD/SSD is in Status Impending- or Predictive-Failure you have to set these Offline before you swap it. This how to will show you how to do this in the GUI. You also can set a HDD Offline in a attached Expansion-Enclosure (e.g. MD1xxx or MD30xxe).

Open the Modular Disk Storage Manager (MDSM).
Connect to the relevant storage.
Click the Tab Hardware.
Mark the hard drive, which shows the impending-status. If it is done, the hard drive will show a blue border stripe.
Now click again on the hard drive with the right mouse-button and choose in the appearing Dialog Box Advanced and then Fail.
The hard drive will went then in failed-status and will be marked with a white X on a red ground.
Now you can swap the hard drive without any problems.
Tip: If you use a Hot Spare it will start a rebuild. (Please note that the rebuild to the hot spare disk will first be completed, before a copy back to the replaced disk takes place)
