MD Series: How to swap a controller battery MD32xx/34xx/36xx/38xx

Symptoms

If the battery performance is too weak or if it has already failed, it must be replaced to avoid data loss. Normally that is shown in MDSM Recovery Guru.

Cause

Because rechargeable batteries lose capacity over a certain period of time or because they have failed due to an error it scould be replaced to avoid data loss.

Resolution

1. Set the Controller Offline
  • a. Please open the Modular Disk Storage Manager and connect to the Storage which shows the Failure.
  • b. Than click the Hardware.
  • c. Then select the controller in the rear view of the device. (Selected is shown with blue outline).
  • d. Now click Advanced > Recovery > Place RAID Controller Modul > Offline.

  • e. Now the controller is offline.
2. Swap the Battery
  • a. Remove the Controller which is Offline

  • b. Release the Screws on booth sides of the Controller and push off the cover.

  • c. Loosen the screw on the battery and remove it.

  • d. To insert the new battery, please proceed in reverse order.

3. Set the Controller Online
  • a. Please open the Modular Disk Storage Manager and connect to the Storage which shows the Failure.
  • b. Than click the Hardware.
  • c. Then select the controller in the rear view of the device which is Offline. (Selected is shown with blue outline).
  • d. Now click Advanced > Recovery > Place RAID Controller Modul > Online.
