You will find the description how to change management IP; rename the system; set or change the password; enable Telnet and restart the Controller.

Resolution

Controller - change management IP
  1. Open a command line on the server or management station where the Modular Disk Storage Manager (MDSM) is installed.
  2. Change into the folder: C:\Programme\Dell\MD Storage Software\MD Storage Manager\client\
  3. Enter the following command (please do not copy):
    • smcli XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX YYY.YYY.YYY.YYY -p PASSWORD -c "set controller [0] ethernetPort [1] IPv4Adresse=ZZZ.ZZZ.ZZZ.ZZZ;"
      • XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX = Management IP 1
      • YYY.YYY.YYY.YYY = Management IP 2
      • ZZZ.ZZZ.ZZZ.ZZZ = New Management-IP
  4. After that the command is confirmed and executed. If you have not set a password, you can simply omit the string "-p PASSWORD".

Controller - rename system
  1. Open a command line on the server or management station where the Modular Disk Storage Manager (MDSM) is installed.
  2. Change into the folder: C:\Programme\Dell\MD Storage Software\MD Storage Manager\client\
  3. Enter the following command (please do not copy):
    • smcli XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX YYY.YYY.YYY.YYY -p PASSWORD -c "set storageArray userLabel=\"MD3200\";"
      • XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX = Management IP 1
      • YYY.YYY.YYY.YYY = Management IP 2
  4. After that the command is confirmed and executed. If you have not set a password, you can simply omit the string "-p PASSWORD".

Controller - set / change password
  1. Open a command line on the server or management station where the Modular Disk Storage Manager (MDSM) is installed.
  2. Change into the folder: C:\Programme\Dell\MD Storage Software\MD Storage Manager\client\
  3. Enter the following command (please do not copy):
    • smcli XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX YYY.YYY.YYY.YYY -p PASSWORD -c "set storage Array password=\"PASSWORD\";"
      • XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX = Management IP 1
      • YYY.YYY.YYY.YYY = Management IP  
  4. After that the command is confirmed and executed. If you have not set a password, you can simply omit the string "-p PASSWORD". If you have one set please enter the "old" password.

Controller - Telnet Enable
  1. Open a command line on the server or management station where the Modular Disk Storage Manager (MDSM) is installed.
  2. Change into the folder: C:\Programme\Dell\MD Storage Software\MD Storage Manager\client\
  3. Enter the following command (please do not copy):
    • smcli XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX YYY.YYY.YYY.YYY -p PASSWORD -c "set controller [Q] rloginEnabled=TRUE;"
      • XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX = Management IP 1
      • YYY.YYY.YYY.YYY = Management IP 2
      • ​​​​​​Q = Controller on which it should be activated  (0 or 1) 
  4. After that the command is confirmed and executed. If you have not set a password, you can simply omit the string "-p PASSWORD".

Controller - Restart
  1. Open a command line on the server or management station where the Modular Disk Storage Manager (MDSM) is installed.
  2. Change into the folder: C:\Programme\Dell\MD Storage Software\MD Storage Manager\client\
  3. Enter the following command (please do not copy):
    • smcli XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX YYY.YYY.YYY.YYY -p PASSWORD -c "reset controller [0];"
      • XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX = Management IP 1
      • YYY.YYY.YYY.YYY = Management IP 2
      • [0] = 0 for Controller 0 or 1 for Controller 1 
  4. After that the command is confirmed and executed. If you have not set a password, you can simply omit the string "-p PASSWORD".
