1. Websites Deprecation and Migration

Dell EMC support websites are deprecating support for HTTP protocol in Calendar Year 2020. Moving forward, the online catalogs that are hosted at downloads.dell.com will be restricted to HTTPS and a minimum of TLS 1.2 cryptographic protocol. In Calendar Year 2019, Dell EMC transitioned away from the legacy online repository at ftp dell com. During the migration to downloads.dell.com, support for the FTP protocol from the Dell EMC online repositories was removed.

iDRAC end users that consume the Dell EMC online catalogs for system updates will notice that update jobs will fail when both of these conditions are met:

The iDRAC system update feature will continue to provide support for FTP and HTTP protocols. This allows iDRAC update jobs to continue supporting custom repositories on those file share types.

2. Solution

Dell EMC Engineering recommends that end-users should begin leveraging https protocol from the online repository at downloads.dell.com once minimum highlighted iDRAC releases have been applied to their servers.

  • 14G PowerEdge Servers (iDRAC9) - HTTPS download support was added to iDRAC/ Lifecycle Controller update interfaces in the iDRAC9 3.30.30.30 and newer firmware release.
  • 13G PowerEdge Servers (iDRAC8) - HTTPS download support was added to iDRAC/ Lifecycle Controller update interfaces in the iDRAC8 2.63.60.61 and newer firmware release.
  • 12G PowerEdge Servers (iDRAC7) - HTTPS download support was added to iDRAC/ Lifecycle Controller update interfaces in the iDRAC7 2.63.60.62 and newer firmware release.
  • 11G PowerEdge Servers (iDRAC6) - HTTPS download support will not get added to the iDRAC/ Lifecycle Controller update interfaces. This product has reached the end of Engineering Development.
