Symptoms

The desktop takes a long time to boot, and the power LED breathes throughout

You may experience the following problem after changing the Double Data Rate 5 (DDR5) memory on a Dell desktop such as the Dell Tower Plus EBT2250. The power LED breathes during the next start-up, and it takes a long time to boot. (A breathing LED is another way of saying the LED is flashing slowly.) After one to four minutes, the desktop finishes booting into the operating system.

Cause

This is due to the memory change. The Intel Memory reference code for DDR5 memory makes your desktop train the new memory after you first turn the desktop on. Turning the desktop on enables the Self-Adaptive Voltage (SAGV).

Resolution

Note: Your desktop is working as it is designed to in these circumstances.

Your desktop exhibits the expected behavior when it triggers the memory re-training after you change the memory. Your desktop needs more time to boot than usual in these circumstances. Your desktop boots to the operating system if you give it some time.
