This page features core documents produced by the Dell Content Engineering Team (formerly IDD) for the Dell PowerProtect and Data Domain (DD) products.
Data Domain hardware is a disk-based storage system that helps organizations manage, protect, and recover large amounts of data. It is designed for data backup and archiving, and can also be used for disaster recovery and data consolidation. Data Domain hardware can be used in various ways, including on-site, as software-defined protection storage, or through service providers.
Data Domain hardware uses a deduplication engine to identify and remove duplicate data, and storage nodes to provide storage capacity. It also has a management console that allows users to configure, monitor, and manage the system. Data Domain hardware can reduce disk storage by up to 30 times, and can provide throughput of up to 58.7 TB per hour.
In 2019, Dell announced that Data Domain products would be rebranded as PowerProtect DD products.
