Symptoms

The user may complain that the power buttons of R250, R350, T150, and T350 are not workable at the first power-on. The power button LED is off after pressing the power (PWR) Button.

Cause

The R250, R350, T150, and T350 models must complete the iDRAC initialization at the first power-on. It takes about 2-5 minutes. During this period, its power button LED is keeping OFF status whether pressing the power button or not. If the monitor is connected, the user sees the message "iDRAC is initializing. Frist power-on may be delayed…", like the below figure:

This behavior only happens at the first power-on after the server performed the AC power drain or the OOB unit.

Resolution

Do not replace any hardware components. Dell engineers are aware of this issue and are going to change the PWR button behavior from OFF to breathing if the user presses the power button during the iDRAC initializing period. The user can more easily understand the server status from the front panel.

Dell engineers are working to cut in this solution on the CPLD, the improved CPLD version is 1.0.1 or later.

Note: If a user encounters the issue while updating CPLD firmware from 1.0.0 or 1.0.1, see the PSQN 000198532.
