Alienware Update/ Dell Update/dell Command Update (AU/DU/DCU) is Unable to Check for Updates
Summary: This article provides information on Alienware Update/ Dell Update/ Dell Command Update(AU/DU/DCU) lands up with an error message.
Symptoms
On some System Models, Alienware Update/ Dell Update/Dell Command Update(AU/DU/DCU) “Check for updates” results in failure, and prompt "Unable to retrieve computer inventory Information."
Cause
This failure happens due to an internal component inside DCU having an issue in scanning the computer.
This is a pre-requisite step for the scan operation and hence failing to show the updates. A sample screenshot of Dell Update(DU) with this failure is shown below(See Figure. 1). The same error would be seen on Alienware Update(AU) and Dell Command Update(DCU) as well.

Resolution
In order to resolve this failure, “Dell Update Recovery Utility” needs to be downloaded and installed on your computers. Please check if your computer has installed this application or click below link to download:
