Alternatively, the host iSCSI initiator is listed as an FC connection. The administrator cannot map this "FC" Initiator/Host/Group to any volumes. The following error is displayed:   "Mapping failed for volume <volume-name> to host <HostGroupname.*.> The group was not found on the system."

Cause

iSCSI uses a unique name to identify an iSCSI node, either target or initiator. This name that is used as a way to universally identify the node.

The iSCSI qualified name format is defined in RFC3720.Third party link icon

Example: iqn.1993-08.org.debian.iscsi:01:107dc7e4254a

Format: iqn.yyyy-mm.naming-authority:unique-name

iqn specifies the use of the iSCSI qualified name as the authority.
yyyy-mm is the year and month on which the naming authority acquired the domain name that is used in this iSCSI name.
naming-authority is the reverse syntax of the Internet domain name of the naming authority. The name in the above example indicates that the debian.org domain name was registered in August 1993, and iscsi is a subdomain, maintained by debian.org.
unique-name is any name that you want to use, for example, the name of your host. The naming authority must ensure that any names assigned following the colon are unique, such as:
  • iqn.1991-05.com.microsoft:winhost1
  • iqn.1998-01.com.vmware.iscsi:esxhost1
  • iqn.1994-05.com.redhat:f8d3cabd44f0

Resolution

  1. On the host operating system logout, the iSCSI initiator from the PowerVault ME target.
  2. Change the iSCSI name to follow the convention described above.  For instructions consult your operating system administrator guide for instructions to change the iSCSI IQN name.
