A Wyse thin client may encounter either an Encrypting System or a Fatal Error no bootable filesystem found message during the initial startup.
Affected Products:
Wyse 3040
Wyse 5470
Wyse 5070
Wyse 5470 All-in-One
When turning on a ThinOS client computer the first time, "Encrypting System" and a series of "Encrypting" prompts display when setting up the computer (Figure 1).
Figure 1: Encrypting System prompt
If the BIOS configuration is changed before setup, or if this encryption process is interrupted before completion, a "Fatal Error: no bootable filesystem found" prompt appears (Figure 2).
Figure 2: Fatal Error: no bootable filesystem found
"Fatal Error: no bootable filesystem found" errors occur when the encryption process is interrupted. The initial encryption process takes about five minutes to complete and cannot be interrupted without corrupting the file system.
If a "Fatal Error: no bootable filesystem found" error occurs, use the Dell Wyse USB Imaging Tool to install a Merlin image (image push).
The "Encrypting System" prompt is seen again after installing the Merlin image. The ThinOS encryption should be completed before using the computer.
