Cause

Ports 7 and 9 require a USB Type-C cable (included) be connected to the USB Type-C upstream port (Port 5) on the monitor from your computer. This enables communication on ports 7 and 9 between your connected USB devices and your computer.

 Port  Description  USB
5 USB Type-C upstream port Connect the USB Type-C cable that came with your monitor to the computer.
7 USB Type-A downstream port Connect your USB device.
9 USB Type-A downstream port with Power Charging Connect your USB device or charge your device.

Resolution

Updating to firmware version M3B102 or later resolves the issue. To download and install the firmware reference Dell Knowledge Base article How to Download and Install Dell Drivers.

Note: Before running the firmware update, ensure that your computer is connected to the monitor through a USB-C cable or USB-A to USB-C cable.

Workaround:

  1. Connect USB Type C port 5 of monitor to USB-C port of computer (USB C to C cable is in box). If the user's computer does not have USB-C port, connect USB Type C port 5 of monitor to USB-A port of computer (USB C to A cable is purchased separately).
  2. Change the USB-C charging setting to Off in Off mode. Start by reinitializing the ports. Unplug the power cable and plug it back in to restart the monitor, or unplug the USB-C cable and plug it back in to reinitialize the port.
  3. To set USB-C charging to Off in Off mode, enter the on-screen display (OSD) menu and select PersonalizeUSB-C ChargingOff in Off Mode.
