Symptoms

Changing the orientation of the USB type-C connector causes the desktop to fail to detect it is connected

 

You can experience detection issues with your Dell Pro Max desktop and an external USB Type-C device. The desktop can fail to detect the USB Type-C is connected if you remove the connector and plug it back in the other way round. (Rotating the USB Type-C connector 180 degrees.)

This affects the following Dell Pro Max desktops:

  • Dell Pro Max Tower T2 FCT2250

Cause

This is due to an issue with the coding in the BIOS.

Resolution

Note: You must have administrator rights on your desktop to make any operating system changes or update any software.

Update the BIOS to Dell Pro Max Micro FCM2250/Slim FCS1250/Tower T2 FCT2250 System BIOS, version 1.1.2 or later. Follow the instructions in the following link to download and install the Dell_Pro_Max_FCM2250_FCS1250_FCT2250_1.1.2.exe update file:
