It is often required to find out the Solid-state Drive (SSD) or Hard Drive Firmware (FW) Version to identify if a firmware update is required or not.

You can remove the drive and check the Firmware Version that is printed on the disk label. (The downside is the effort required to remove the drive.)

The easiest way is to use the following WMIC command:

  1. Press and hold the Windows (Windows Button) key, and then press the r key.
  2. Type CMD and press the enter key to open the command prompt window
  3. Type wmic diskdrive get caption, firmwarerevision and press the enter key.
