Symptoms

The following article provides information about resolving an issue with the U-Blox GPS utility not working correctly when you combine the Universal GNSS driver with the VCP driver on a Latitude Rugged Notebook.

GPS isn't working correctly on Latitude Rugged notebooks with Universal GNSS driver installed?

The U-Centre or GPS utility will not work properly on a Latitude Rugged notebook when you have both the universal GNSS sensor driver and the regular VCP driver installed on the system. These two drivers are not compatible with each other.

Affected Systems:

  • Latitude 5420 Rugged
  • Latitude 5424 Rugged
  • Latitude 7424 Rugged Extreme

Resolution

Resolution

The regular VCP driver is unable to receive any NMEA (National Maritime Electronics Association) data from the U-Center or GPS utility.

You need to remove the Universal GNSS (18.04) sensor driver and install the correct sensor driver, before installing the VCP driver.

U-Blox asks that you use the GPS driver configuration of the (18.12) sensor driver along with the (18.06) VCP driver. This should be implemented from Dell from August 2019.
