CloudIQ Overview

CloudIQ is a no-cost cloud-native application that leverages Machine Learning to proactively monitor and measure the overall health of Dell infrastructure through intelligent, comprehensive, and predictive analytics. It is available at no additional charge for devices under a ProSupport or higher contract. This article steps through the requirements to enable CloudIQ and the CyberSecurity feature in CloudIQ on Dell PowerProtect DD systems.

Prerequisites

  • Valid Dell ProSupport Credentials
  • Connectivity to Secure Connect Gateway (SCG)
  • Supported Release:
    DD OS 7.4.0.5 or later
Monitoring performance feature is available for DD OS v7.6.x.x and above.
DDOS 7.12 or later is required for CyberSecurity
  • Supported Models:
    DD9910, DD9410, DD9900, DD9400, DD6900, DD3300, DD9800, DD9300, DD6800, DD6300, DD6400,
    Data Domain Virtual Edition (DDVE)

Note: DD9500, DD7200, DD4500, and DD4200 will not be supported and will be removed post November 2023 as they have reached End of Standard Support after DDOS 7.9.

Note: PowerProtect Data Domain devices that are part of an Integrated Data Protection Appliance (IDPA) are NOT supported. There is no plan to support Integration Data Protection Appliance (which is a heritage appliance that is based on Avamar protection software) in CloudIQ. In the future, we are supporting the newer appliances that are based on PowerProtect Data Manager (PPDM) as the protection engine in CloudIQ.

Onboarding

Configure Secure Connect Gateway:

Note: Although the UI references Secure Remote Services (SRS), the virtual and docker editions of Secure Remote Services v3.x, our legacy remote IT monitoring and support software solution, will be fully retired on January 31, 2024. This is replaced with Secure Connect Gateway (SCG).

  1. Log in to DD System Manager as sysadmin or another user with administrator privileges and go to the Configuration tab under the Maintenance > Support menu.

If Secure Connect Gateway is not configured, the Dell Support Channel is not set and the CloudIQ section displays the following message: "Configure Channel as Secure Remote Services gateway for enabling sharing of data with CloudIQ."

  2. Under the Configuration tab, select Configure SRS to configure the Secure Remote Services (that is Secure Connect Gateway) information.
    Configure SRS

    Configure SRS Details

  3. Enter the Gateway Hostname and the DD System Local IP:
    Configure Dell EMC Support Delivery

NOTE: For a DD Appliance, the appliance serial number shows as managed under the gateway. For a DDVE, this procedure creates an Instance Software-id and shows as managed under the gateway. The procedure of configuring a DDVE to the gateway registers the Instance Software-id into our install base (Lightning). Allow 30 minutes to an hour for this to complete.

For DDVE, collect the following information:

# system show serialno

  1. This shows:

# system show serialno
Serial number: AUDxxxxxxxxxxx
System software-id: ELMDDVxxxxxxxx
Instance software-id: ELMDDVxxxxxxxx

  1. The Instance software-id from the above output shows as managed under the gateway. It is present within Lightning with a valid contract and status of install.

  1. When Secure Connect Gateway has been successfully configured, the Dell Support Channel is set to Secure Remote Services.

  2. Enable CloudIQ Data Sharing and CyberSecurity by clicking the Configure button under the CloudIQ section and checking the boxes next to "Share Data with CloudIQ" and "CyberSecurity." Click Configure to save the settings.
    CloudIQ Configuration

  3. When CloudIQ and CyberSecurity data sharing is enabled, the status of Share Data within CloudIQ and CyberSecurity indicates Enabled. The following shows a system that is successfully enabled for CloudIQ data sharing in DD System Manager.
    Share Data is enabled

Within the CloudIQ user interface, a DDVE system under the CloudIQ Admin > Connectivity page shows the Serial number as "Not Set Up." When properly onboarded, the Instance software-id shows as "Connected."

Disable CloudIQ Data Sharing:

  1. Log in to DDSM as sysadmin or another user with administrator privileges.

  2. Go to the Configuration tab under Maintenance > Support.

  3. Select Configure under CloudIQ.
    Disable

  4. Clear CyberSecurity and Share Data with CloudIQ to stop all collections and click Configure.
    Stop Collections

Accessing CloudIQ Portal:

CloudIQ is accessed by navigating to https://cloudiq.dell.com or directly from within DDSM using the "Launch CloudIQ" hyperlink. Clicking "Launch CyberSecurity in CloudIQ" directs the user to the CyberSecurity page in the CloudIQ user interface.

  1. Log in to CloudIQ using your Dell ProSupport credentials.
    Launch hyperlinks

  2. When a new user logs in to CloudIQ, they step through the following onboarding screens.
CloudIQ retrieves the systems that are associated to the user's site IDs based on their support credentials:
    Onboarding 1

    Onboarding 2

    Onboarding 3

    Onboarding 4

  3. CloudIQ retrieves the systems that are associated to the user's site IDs based on their support credentials. Click Continue.
    Onboarding 5

    Onboarding 6

  4. Once the command completes, it shows a success screen.
    Onboarding 7

  5. Upon logging in to CloudIQ, the user sees all systems that are successfully sending data to CloudIQ. In situations where the user has not successfully configured any systems to send data to CloudIQ. They are directed to the Connectivity page in the CloudIQ UI where they see their CloudIQ compatible systems.
