Reference Table of ePSA, PSA Error Codes, and Troubleshooting Steps (2000-0NNN Series)

Summary: See the section that matches the code you received, and follow the instructions that are listed in the Next Steps column.

This article applies to This article does not apply to This article is not tied to any specific product. Not all product versions are identified in this article.

Instructions

The easiest way to search the table for a code is to press and hold the Ctrl (control) key and to press the f key, this opens the find or search function. Enter the code exactly as it was shown to you.

NOTE: When you have a code that is not formatted as 2000-XXXX, see Dell Knowledge-base article Error Codes on Dell Commercial and Consumer products.
NOTE: One of the most common step when troubleshooting a computer is to update the computer Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) also called the system setup. It is suggested that the BIOS be updated to the most current version available before running diagnostics. Learn more about Dell BIOS Updates.
NOTE: Laptop batteries' basic warranty expires 12 months from the date that the computer was invoiced from Dell. Unless the laptop has an extended warranty on the battery, battery failures outside the first year of use is not covered by the computer warranty.
NOTE: The last three digits in the code are called the beep code. These beeps occur when the computer is unable to display a message. For example, error code 2000-0142 has a beep code of 142 which may be manifest by 1 beep - pause - 4 beeps - pause - 2 beeps. In this case, the beeps are trying to inform the operator that the hard drive self-test was unsuccessful.
NOTE: When you have received an error code, locate the error code in the table below, and follow the Next Steps listed. When you require further assistance, browse to our SupportAssist Pre-Boot System Performance Check page, referenced as the ePSA online tool in the table to save space.
