This article applies to This article does not apply to This article is not tied to any specific product. Not all product versions are identified in this article.

Symptoms

The install logs are located in <install path>\EMC\AppSync\_DellAppSync_installation\Logs.

The install log shows that the IP address of the host was not found.

Notice below that the line ends in "Set IP=Input]" rather than the actual IP address:
Command.run(): "C:\Users\admin001\AppData\Local\Temp\166931.tmp\executeScriptTmp0.bat":stdout [C:\Users\admin001\AppData\Local\Temp\I1691614562\Windows>set IP=Input ]
The AppSync Security Service does not start.

The AppSync UI does not work. An error is returned stating:
This site can't provide a secure connection
<hostname> uses an unsupported protocol
ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH
further details
Unsupported protocol
The client and server don't support a common SSL protocol version or cipher suite
Another symptom to help identify the issue for this knowledge article is to open file explorer and go to <install path>\appsync\keycloak\bin. The .vbs files in this folder should state "VBScript Script File" for the Type. For the issue this article was written for, the Type for the .vbs files was "text document."

Cause

.vbs files were associated as text files.

Resolution

There are different methods to alter the definition of an extension, but this method is to ensure the registry is properly set.
  1. Ensure that a good backup and restore are taken to backout of any registry changes.
  2. Engage the Windows Administrator, if required.
  3. Go to HKEY_CLASS_ROOT, scroll down, and click on .vbs and change the Default Data field to VBSFile.
At this point:
  • If this is a fresh install, AppSync must be uninstalled and reinstalled after setting the proper filetype for .vbs files.
  • If this is an upgrade, a back out to the prior version is required and then the upgrade can be repeated after setting the proper filetype for .vbs files.
Using vmsnapshots is an effective method to back out. If vmsnapshots is not available, the backup copy that AppSync automatically takes at upgrade can be used to back out. It is in C:\AppSyncBackup.
  1. Save the backup to a safe location.
  2. Uninstall the current AppSync version and install the prior version (including any hotfixes) from scratch.
  3. Import the database backup using the steps in the AppSync 4.6.0.0 Install Guide, in the section entitled: "Restore an automated backup."

Additional Information

A repair install after setting the appropriate file type for .vbs files does not resolve this issue.
