Configure speakers to work on dual Dell S2418HX monitors attached to same computer

Follow the steps outlined in this article to use both monitor speakers when dual Dell S2418HX monitors are connected to the same computer.


Audio on dual Dell S2418HX monitors

If two Dell S2418HX monitors are connected to the same computer, it is possible to use the speakers from both monitors by routing the audio devices together using an AUX cable. Follow the steps below to configure both monitor speakers to work with the computer:

  1. Make sure you are plugging one end of the auxiliary cable into the Audio Line-Out port of the monitor that is connected directly to the computer (6 in diagram below) (Figure 1):

    Label Description Use
    1 DC power connector To connect the monitor power adapter.
    2 mini DIN port Connect speakers to playback audio coming through HDMI audio channel or audio line-in channels.
    3 HDMI port Connect your computer with HDMI cable.
    4 VGA port Connect your computer with VGA cable (optional).
    5 Audio-in port Connect to your computer audio output.
    6 Audio line-out port Connect to active speakers to playback audio coming through HDMI audio channel or audio line-in channels.
    Only supports 2-channel audio.
    NOTE: The audio line-out port does not support headphones.
    WARNING: Excessive sound pressure from earphones or headphones can cause hearing damage or loss.
  2. Next, plug the other end of the auxiliary cable into the Audio-in port on the display that is not currently producing audio through the speaker (5 in diagram above).
  3. Make sure you use the display menu to go into the Audio settings for the second display that is not producing sound and change the Audio source from PC audio to Audio line-in following the steps below:
    • Press the Menu button labeled with 3 in the image below to bring up the display menu (Figure 2):

    • Use the same Front-Panel Buttons as labeled below to navigate through the menu options (Figure 3):

    • Use the arrow buttons as labeled above to highlight the Audio section and press the OK button to access the audio settings.
    • Highlight the Audio source section and press the OK button to access options for this setting.
    • Select the Audio line-in option and press the OK button to confirm
    • Exit from the display menu and confirm that audio is working on both S2418HX monitor speakers
