Resolution

vmnic is a network interface card and it is configured in it ethernet0=4000 and/or ethernet1=4001.

As per vmware: "The last number would signify which ethernet statement in the config file, or from the top to bottom in the vm properties. ethernet0 = 4000, ethernet1=4001"
