Edge Gateway 300x with Ubuntu cannot wake with WOL enabled

Symptoms

The Edge Gateway 300x with Ubuntu Core 16 cannot wake from an S5 state using the WOL client. This happens after configuring the BIOS WOL settings to enable Local Area Network (LAN) and Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) and booting to the operating system.

What is an S5 power state?

The device is turned off and consumes only a trickle current to let it reboot. 

Cause

The device cannot wake up from a S5 power state using the WOL client.

Resolution

Canonical has updated the kernel that addresses this issue:

  1. Connect the unit to the Internet and allow automatic Over-the-Air (OTA) updates from the Ubuntu Snap Store.
  2. Updating to Kernel version 37 resolves the issue.
