Using and Troubleshooting Screen Issues on Chromebooks

When the Chromebook's screen is dark or blank, see the following troubleshooting steps and resources to help resolve the issue.

  1. Ensure the Chromebook is plugged in.
  2. Ensure the Chromebook is on by pressing the power button.
  3. Press the increase screen brightness button several times, and then check to see if the screen brightness increases. For more information about where the increase screen brightness button is, see Dell knowledge base article Dell Chromebook Keyboard Guide.
  4. Restart the Chromebook by holding the power button down until the device turns off, then turn it back on again.
  5. To help resolve some Chromebook issues, you might need to reset your Chromebook hardware, also called a hard reset. For more information, see the Google knowledge base article Reset your Chromebook hardware.
  6. You can make your Chromebook run like new again by doing a factory reset. For more information, see the Google knowledge base article Reset your Chromebook to factory settings.
