FirstNet is a force-multiplier for American first responders. The foundation of the FirstNet service is a highly reliable, highly secure broadband network that is dedicated to public safety. FirstNet provides advanced communication capabilities on a network designed for public safety users.
Why AT&T?
The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) chose AT&T to build and manage their broadband network. It is the first that is dedicated to America’s police, firefighters, and emergency medical services (EMS). The FirstNet network covers all 50 states, 5 U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia, including rural communities and tribal lands in those states and territories.

A dedicated core network that ensures first responders connect first with preemption capabilities allowing the necessary bandwidth in an emergency by detouring others off the network.
They include Band 14 to give first responders dedicated access to the highly-desirable 700 MHz wireless spectrum.
Note: FirstNet Ready requires a new module AND new Radio Frequency (RF) antennas. They are to be selected at the point of purchase: These parts cannot be upgraded to in the field after the point of sale.

Note: FirstNet capable devices require a firmware update. This firmware should be available to order installed on the laptop from Dell on devices shipping from January 2019.
Some early customers were unable to connect to FirstNet, but AT&T and Dell have a resolution in place.
Note: The following subscribers cannot connect to FirstNet and must have their SIM canceled and replaced with a newly provisioned FirstNet SIM from AT&T:
- Any customer who had their AT&T FirstNet Subscriber Identifier Module (SIMs) provisioned before the January 23, 2019.
