Instructions

This article details the steps to define the operating system as ESX for an initiator group in XtremIO 4.0 and later.

Facts:
  • XtremIO
  • vSphere

Procedure:

NOTE: This section applies only to XtremIO version 4.0 and later.

  1. When adding Initiators and Initiator Groups to allow ESX hosts to access XtremIO volumes, specify ESX as the operating system for newly created Initiators. See the figure below for reference.

NOTE: Setting the Initiator’s Operating System is required for optimal interoperability and stability of the host with XtremIO storage. You can adjust the setting while the host is online and connected to the XtremIO cluster with no I/O impact.

Following a cluster upgrade from XtremIO 3.0.x to 4.0 (or later), modify the operating system for each initiator that is connected to an ESX host.

To check the status of existing hosts:
  1. Select Initiator Groups in the left pane.
  2. Select the Initiator Group associated with the host in the center pane, right-click, and select Modify Initiator Group.
  3. If the Operating System type is Other, then change it to ESX.
  4. Select each initiator in the group and click Modify.
