Symptoms

The Integrated Data Protection Appliance (IDPA) did not show any signs of issues from the user's end nor did it show any signs of issues from Dell Support end. The only issue and reason there was a case created was to verify that the IDPA was working as designed.

The switch was getting alerts and notifications that there were 2 MAC addresses being resented by the same IP address that was coming for the IDPA.

Cause

To confirm and verify this issue, run the following commands:

Log into the ACM of the IDPA using PuTTY or SSH

Steps to follow:
  1. grep -i duplicate /var/log/messages
look for any duplicates
  1. ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:01 inet addr:192.168.100.100 Bcast:192.168.100.127 Mask:255.255.255.224 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:370855703 errors:0 dropped:19253 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:50713660 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:524843088567 (500529.3 Mb) TX bytes:13145486953 (12536.5 Mb)

  1. PuTTY or SSH to the vCenter
command: shell
once in the shell type: ifconfig
  1. Compare and make sure that the MAC address is the same one that is listed in the switch log.

Resolution

This is working by design. This seems to be a false-positive alert for the switch. The network team can silence this alert from the switch as it is working and is not an issue.
