Data Domain Boost - Open Storage: ifgroup not working correctly when IP range is used

This article applies to This article does not apply to This article is not tied to any specific product. Not all product versions are identified in this article.

Symptoms

An IFGROUP client is a member of a single ifgroup and may consist of:
  • A fully qualified domain name (FQDN) such as ddboost.datadomain.com
  • Wild cards such as *.datadomain.com or  *
  • A short name for the client, such as ddboost
  • Client public IP range, such as 128.5.20.0/24
When using an IP range to filter the clients as well as "*", the ifgroup balancing might not work correctly.

Cause

This is because before DDOS 5.5.3.0 the client filtering will evaluate the wildcard first.

This can result in stream not being balanced or streams ending up in the wrong group.

Resolution

Remove the the wildcard from the client filtering even if the group might be disabled.
From DDOS 5.5.3.0 the wildcard will be used last hence avoiding this issue.
