19.7 new feature series job serviceability enhancement reference Dell Knowledge article number 183 721. This video was created to introduce the enhancement on job serviceability for Power Protect data manager 19.7 and demonstrate the new features with examples. This video presents the following two points. First, enhancements to job statistics and reporting information to include job group metrics and details. Second is enhancements to error messages providing detailed descriptions and where applicable resolutions or workarounds. This information appears when viewing the task summary in the jobs window.
The job metric section displays the number of assets, the total size of the data transferred and the overall duration of the job group. The job details section displays more specific information such as the job start and end time, the protection storage target, the average data transfer rate, the amount of data changed since the last protection job and the rate of compression applied in PPM 19.7 we have improved the error messages with more detailed explanations on why the job failed and provide possible causes or which logs should be reviewed. And troubleshooting steps. In this demo, we go through the job metrics, job details and show the improvements on error messages.
Click jobs from the dashboard, there are two sections, one for protection job and the other for system job such as discovery. Let's take a look at a successful job. First click the icon in the details column and then the details pane opens on the right of the window. Click to view task summary. Now we can see the job metrics with number of assets size of the data transferred and the duration. More information is displayed in job details including the job start and end time, the protection storage target, the average throughput, data size reduction to percent and so on. If we click the details of the task, we will find the backup summary, then we look at a failed job, click details and go to the task summary.
If there's a failed task that requires action, a status of critical appears, click the icon to check details. Here we can see there are two sections. The error will show the specific error message in the logs and will provide a possible resolution. The step section will be more specific, we can see which step has failed and it will also provide the recommended action for the customer to follow and troubleshoot, important notes, job metrics and details do not display or might be incomplete for job groups that contain the following first application, agent assets from a protection job that was performed for an application agent previous to version 19.7 to display the correct information for these assets, update the application agent on these assets to the current version.
