How to Replace the Backplane for PowerEdge C6600

This video demonstrates the replacement procedure of a backplane for the PowerEdge C6600.

In this video, we show how to replace the backplane on a PowerEdge C6600.

Before moving the backplane, read through and follow the safety guidelines to protect your system from potential damage and ensure your personal safety.

For more information about safety guidelines, see the C6600 service manual at Dell.com/Support. In order to remove the backplane, you must first remove the cover hard drives and drive cage.

To remove the cover press and hold the cover release latch down. Slide the cover towards the rear of the system, then lift the cover off the system.

To remove a drive, press release button to open the release handle. Holding the release handle, Slide the drive out of the drive slot.

Repeat this process for the remaining drives. To remove the mid top cover, remove the two screws securing it in place. Then slide it toward the back of the chassis and lift out.

To remove the drive cage, lift one of the 60 millimeter fan cages out of its slot and set it aside. And repeat this with the other cage. Next, disconnect the power and data cables from the Backplane.

Then remove the four screws, that secure the cage to the chassis. Finally, lift the cage up and away from the chassis. To remove the backplane, remove the six screws that secure the backplane in place.

Then lift the backplane away from the drive cage. To install the backplane, align and place it into the drive cage. Then tighten the screws the secure it to the drive cage.

To install a drive cage, align and place it in the chassis. Next, tighten the four screws to secure the cage to the chassis, then reconnect the power and data cables to the backplane.

Finally, place one of the fan cages in its slot, followed by the other. To install the mid top cover, align it with the guide slots and slide it towards the front of the chassis.

Then tighten the two screws, securing it into place. To install the drives, slide one into the drive slot. Repeat this process for the remaining drives.

To install the cover, align the system cover with the guide slots and place it on the chassis. Finally, slide the cover towards the front of the chassis until locks into place.
