How to Fix Dell Keyboard Not Working

If you are having trouble with your keyboard when using it from within side windows, try the following steps which resolve most common keyboard issues.

The first thing to do is to check if your keyboard functions outside the operating system. Shut down the system and turn it back on again. Tap the F12 key at startup.

If you can access the boot menu, that's a very good sign because it means that your keyboard is working. Navigate to diagnostics and press. Enter a full system scan will begin automatically to test a specific component.

Press the escape key to pause the full scan. Click on the next arrow button to forward to the next page. Select keyboard from the list of components to perform a custom test.

If you receive any error codes, make note of the code details and contact the Dell Tech support agent to social media on Facebook or Twitter for further assistance.

If no errors were detected, then move on to the next step. Now let's test your keyboard inside BIOS. Restart your computer. Repeatedly Tap the F2 key at the Dell logo screen to enter BIOS.

From the list of settings, expand security and try setting up a password within BIOS. Check whether the system recognizes any keyboard keystrokes.

Keystrokes will appear as an asterisk if the system does not recognize any keystrokes entered from your keyboard, then continue with the next step.

The virtual keyboard is now needed to log into and navigate within Windows. The screen image example shown here demonstrates where to access the virtual keyboard prior to logging in.

Click on the name onscreen keyboard to open it. Optimizing your system using Dell Support Assist Windows Search and Select SupportAssist and open it on the home tab in the upper right corner.

Click on Run All. Follow the onscreen instructions and restart your system if prompted. Did this resolve your keyboard issues? If not, go on to the next step.

Check to see how the keyboard performs in safe mode. Click on the start menu and go into settings. Select Update & Security. Navigate to Recovery and under Advanced Startup. Click on restart now.

After your PC restarts on the Choose an Option screen. Select Troubleshoot. Select Advanced Options and then Select Startup settings and click on the Restart button.

After your system restarts, press the F4 key to enable Safe mode. Once you're in safe mode, test your keyboard to see how it performs. If it's functioning properly, then move on to the next step.

If it isn't, then contact the Dell Tech support agent to social media for further assistance. Update the system BIOS Window Search Bitlocker and Select Manage Bitlocker.

Click on Suspend Protection and then yes to confirm. Now go to Dell.com/support and click on Detect PC or enter your service tag. Select drivers and downloads Set bios as the category.

Download the latest update available and run the executable file. Click on Update and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the process.
