How to remove and install the solid-state drive on Inspiron 14 5445

This tutorial provides step-by-step instructions on how to remove and install the solid state drive on an Inspiron 14 5445. In this video, we demonstrate how to replace the solid state drive, or SSD, in an Inspiron 14 5445 with an aluminium chassis. Before you begin, create a recovery drive and back up all data. Ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the computer. Disconnect all the attached peripherals.

To begin, loosen the two captive screws and then remove the five screws that secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Next, use a plastic scribe to pry open the base cover starting from the recesses near the hinges. New Caption to release the base cover and remove it.

Then, disconnect the battery cable from the connector on the system board. Now, turn the computer over and open the display panel to access the power button. Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to ground the computer and drain the flea power.

To remove the SSD, Remove the screw that secures the SSD bracket to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Slide and remove the bracket, along with the SSD, from its slot on the system board. Turn the bracket over and remove the screw that secures the SSD to the bracket.

Then lift the SSD off the bracket. To install the SSD, first align the round notch on the SSD with the screw hole on the SSD bracket. Then replace the screw to secure the SSD to the bracket. Turn the SSD bracket over. Align the notch on the SSD with the tab on the slot on the system board and slide it in at an angle.

Then replace the screw to secure the SSD bracket to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Now, connect the battery cable to the connector on the system board. Align the base cover with the palm-rest and keyboard assembly and snap it into place. Replace the five screws and then tighten the two captive screws to secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
