This video will demonstrate the installation procedure of a Microsoft Windows 2016 in UEFI mode for the OS.
In this video, we will show how to manually install the Microsoft Windows 2016 Operating system in the UEFI mode, on Dell 13th generation PowerEdge systems. Before you begin, ensure that you have the Microsoft Windows Server 2016 operating system handy. To begin the process, turn on the system.
Press F2 to go to the System Setup page. Click System BIOS, Boot Settings, and then select UEFI as the Boot Mode. Click Back, click Finish twice, and then click Yes to exit the System Setup page. The system restarts. Meanwhile, click Virtual Media, and then click Connect Virtual Media. The Initializing connection dialog box is displayed. Press F2 to go to the System Setup page. Click System BIOS, Boot Settings, UEFI Boot Settings, and then click UEFI Boot Sequence.
You must ensure that Virtual Optical Drive appears first in the list. Then, click OK. And then click Back until you can view the System BIOS Settings page. Click Finish, and then click Yes in the Saving Changes dialog box. After this, click OK on the success message to exit from the BIOS settings. To exit from System Setup, click Finish, and then click Yes on the confirm exit message. The system restarts automatically.
Note that if you have the Dell OEM recovery DVD media, insert it in to your DVD drive. If a DVD drive is not present in your system, then use a USB DVD drive. If you do not have an USB DVD drive, you can use the virtual media method. If you want to use virtual media, then you need to have the Microsoft Windows Server 2016 .ISO image handy. Click Virtual Media, and then click Map CD/DVD to map the OS image.
In the dialog box, click Browse to select the Microsoft Windows 2016 .iso image, and then click Map Device. Note that after rebooting your system, you will be prompted to press any key to start the installation. Once you press any key, the OS installation starts. If however the key is not pressed, the system does not proceed with the installation and the system might return back to the F1 and F2 screen.
In that case, restart the system and retry the installation. Once the files are loaded, select the appropriate Language in which you want to install the OS. Note that if you want to change to another language, reboot the system, boot back in to the OS media, and then choose the right language. You can select the Time and currency format of your region, select Keyboard or input method, and then click Next to continue.
Then, click Install now. This operation might take a while to complete. If you want to install full OS, then select the Windows Server 2016 Desktop Experience. And then click Next. Read the license agreement; if you agree to the license terms, select I accept the license terms, and then click Next. Select Custom Install Windows only. Note that if there is a partition already created, then delete all of them and click New to create a new partition.
After this, select the drive where you want to install Microsoft Windows 2016, and then click Next to begin the installation. Note that the system will restart a few times while the installation is in progress. After the installation is successful, the system restarts. Type password and now you can log in to Microsoft Windows server 2016.
Note that Dell highly recommends to install the latest hotfixes and security updates from Microsoft on your system by using Windows updates or by downloading the latest updates after installing the operating system. For more information, go to www.delltechcenter.com/os.
