How to Replace the Heat Sink and Processor on a PowerEdge R260

In this video, we show how to replace the heat sink and processor on a PowerEdge R260. Before removing the heat sink and processor, read through and follow the safety guidelines to protect your system from potential damage and ensure your personal safety. In order to remove the heat sink and processor you must first remove the system cover and air shroud. To remove the system cover, using a screwdriver rotate the lock counterclockwise to the unlocked position. Press down on the two release tabs and slide the cover towards the rear to disengage it. Then lift the cover from the system.
To remove the air shroud, hold it at both ends and lift it out of the system. To remove the heat sink, loosen the screws, starting with the first one, then the opposite followed by the remaining screws. Then lift it from the system. To remove the processor, press the release lever down and away from the tab. Lift the lever followed by the processor shield. Then holding the processor by the edges, remove it from the socket.
To install the processor, align and place the processor in the socket. Lower the processor shield, then lower the lever and push it under the tab to lock it into place. Apply thermal grease in a spiral onto the processor. Be sure to remove any existing thermal grease first. To install the heat sink, align it with the system board and lower it into place. Using a screwdriver, tighten the screws starting with the first screw.
Then the opposite followed by the remaining screws. To install the air shroud, align it with the standoffs on the chassis wall and lower until firmly seated. To install the system cover, align and place it on the system. Slide it to the front until it clicks into place. Then use a screwdriver to rotate the lock clockwise to the locked position.
