This video will demonstrate the replacement procedure of a Fan for the PowerEdge T40.
Prerequisites CAUTION:Do not remove or install the fan by holding the blades. CAUTION:Never operate your system with the system fan removed. System can overheat and result in shutdown of the system and loss of data.
Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions. Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system. Power off the system and attached peripherals. Disconnect the system from the electrical outlet, and disconnect the peripherals. Remove the system cover Lay the system on its side.
Open the PSU assembly. Remove the speaker. Disconnect the fan power cable from the system board connector.
Removing system fan Remove the screw that secures the system fan base plate to the chassis. Slide the system fan base plate towards the front of the chassis to release it from the system. Unroute the system fan cable from the routing channel on the system fan base plate. Stretch the grommets securing the fan. Pull the fan away from the grommets. Repeat steps 4 and 5 to release the fan from the remaining grommets.
Installing system fan: Align the grommets on the system fan base plate with the holes on the system fan frame. Stretch the grommets and push the system fan toward the system fan base plate to secure the system fan in place. Route the system fan cable through the routing channel on the system fan base plate. Align the system fan base plate with the slots on the chassis. Slide the fan base plate into the slot until it is firmly seated. Tighten the screw to secure the system fan base plate to the chassis. Connect the system fan power cable to the connector on the system board.
Install the speaker. Close the PSU assembly.
Follow the procedure listed in After working inside your system: Install the system cover. Place the system upright on a flat, stable surface. Reconnect the peripherals and connect the system to the electrical outlet. Power on the attached peripherals and then power on the system.
