How to replace the speaker on Inspiron 16 5640

In this video, we show how to replace the speakers on an Inspiron 16 5640. Before you begin, create a recovery drive and back up all data. Always use ESD protection when working inside the computer, and disconnect all attached peripherals. To enter Service Mode, press and hold the B key on the keyboard, then press the power button. The computer will boot up, displaying the Owner Tag information. Press any key to proceed, and the computer will emit three short beeps and shut down.

To begin, loosen the two captive screws and remove the six screws securing the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Use a plastic scribe to open the base cover, starting from the recesses near the hinges, and continue prying along the sides to release and remove it. Gently disconnect the battery cable from the connector on the system board, then pry the base of the head of the cable connector and pull the head away to disconnect the speaker cable. Remove the speaker cable from the routing guides on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly, then lift the speakers along with the cable off the assembly.

To install the speakers, place them in their slots on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly using the alignment posts, ensuring the rubber grommets are not displaced. Route the speaker cable along the routing guides on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly, and over the wireless-antenna cables. Ensure the speaker cable remains in the routing guides before installing the base cover. Then, connect the speaker cable to the connector on the system board, and reconnect the battery cable.

Align the base cover with the palm-rest and keyboard assembly, snap it into place, tighten the two captive screws, and replace the six screws securing the base cover. Once the computer is fully assembled, connect the power adapter, press the power button to turn on the computer, and exit Service Mode.
