How to replace the M.2 2230 solid state drive (SSD) on Inspiron 14 5440 with a plastic chassis

This tutorial provides step-by-step instructions on how to remove and install the solid-state drive on an Inspiron 14 5440 with a plastic chassis.
In this video, we demonstrate how to replace the solid-state-drive, or SSD in an Inspiron 14 5440 with a plastic chassis. Before you begin, create a recovery drive and backup all data. Ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the computer. Disconnect all the attached peripherals and enter service mode. To enter service mode press and hold the B key on the keyboard and then press the power button. Now the computer will boot up and the owner tag information is displayed on the screen.
Press any key to proceed. The computer will emit three short beeps and shut down. Now to begin. Loosen the two captive screws and then remove the six screws to secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Next, use a plastic scribe to pry open the base cover starting from the recesses near the hinges. Continue prying along the other sides to release the base cover and remove it.
To remove the SSD remove the screw that secures the SSD bracket to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Slide and remove the bracket along with the SSD from its slot on the system board. Turn the bracket over and remove the screw the secures the SSD to the bracket. Then lift the SSD off the bracket. To install the SSD first, align the round notch on the SSD with a screw hole on the bracket, then replace the screw to secure the SSD to the bracket.
Turn the SSD bracket over. Align the notch on the SSD with a tab on the slot on the system board, and slide it in at an angle. Then replace the screw to secure the SSD bracket to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Align the base cover with a palm-rest and keyboard assembly and snap it into place.
Replace the six screws and then tighten the two captive screws to secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Once the computer is fully assembled, connect the power adapter and press the power button to turn on the computer and exit service mode. Please note the computer will only power on if the power adapter is connected.
