This video shows how to remove dual SATA flex bays and replace them with the Upper PCIe flex bay on Precision 7865 Tower. Before you begin, turn off the computer, disconnect all the attached peripherals, and remove any SD card installed in the SD card slot on your computer. Ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the computer.
To begin, remove the lockable hard-drive bezel by inserting the key and turning it clockwise to open the lock. Then, slide and remove the lockable hard-drive bezel away from the SATA flex bay. Repeat this step to remove the lockable hard-drive bezel away from the lower flex bay. Now to remove the upper SATA flex bay. open the release latch by pressing the release button on the upper external-flex bay bracket.
Then, hold the release latch and slide the SATA flex bay out of the upper external-flex bay slot. Repeat this step to remove the lower external-flex bay out of the lower external-flex bay slot. To remove the side cover, insert the side-cover key and turn the key counter-clockwise to unlock the side cover. Then, push the release latchon the side cover and pull outwards to remove it. Lay the computer on to its right side. Now, let’s remove the air shroud. Hold the air shroud at the gripping points and pull it outwards to remove it from the computer.
Then, disconnect the SATA data cables, and power cable from their connectors on the system board. Also, disconnect the thermal sensor cables and fan cable from their connectors on the system board. Now, unroute the thermal sensor cables and fan cable from the hook on the cable routing bracket. Open the cable routing bracket, and take out the SATA data cables, power cable, fan cable and thermal sensor cables from the cable routing bracket.
Now, loosen the four captive screws that secure the flex bay backplane to the computer. Then, lift it away from the computer along with the cables. The dual-SATA flex bay removal process is now complete. Note. The Heat-sink must be removed before installing or removing PCIe flex bay. However, showing the Heat-sink removal is beyond the scope of this video. Refer to the documentation for more information on this proceedure. Now, let’s install the Upper-PCIe flex bay. Align and insert the Upper-PCIe flex bay backplane into the slot on the computer.
Then, tighten the two captive screws to secure to the computer. Unlock the routing clips and route the PCIe data cable through the clips. And then press the clips to lock it. Now, connect the PCIe data cable to the connector on the system board. Route the PCIe power cable through the hooks on the backplane. Connect the PCIe power cable to the connector on the system board. Then, connect the fan and thermal cables to the connectors on the system board. Now, Route the fan and thermal sensor cables through the hooks on the cable routing bracket.
Place the PCIe power cable, fan cable, and thermal sensor cables inside the cable routing bracket. Then, close the cable routing bracket and press until it clicks in place. Note. The Heat-sink must be removed before installing or removing PCIe flex bay. However, showing the Heat-sink installation is beyond the scope of this video. For more information about this process refer to the documentation Now, let’s install the air shroud. hold the air shroud at the gripping points and push vertically down until it clicks in place. Lift and place the computer in an upright position.
Align the tabs on the side cover with the slots on the chassis. Then, move it inwards until it clicks in place. Insert the side-cover key into the key slot and turn it clockwise to lock the computer. Insert and slide the M.2 module into the PCIe flex bay until it clicks into place. To install the lockable hard-drive bezel. Place the component on the SATA flex-bay slot. And align the notches on the lockable hard-drive bezel with the slots on the chassis.
Now, insert the key and turn counter-clockwise to lock the PCIe flex bay. Then, remove the key from the lock. The Upper PCIe flex bay installation process is now complete. The lower flex bay is empty, and available as a 5.25-inch flex bay. You can now connect all the peripherals. Connect the power adapter and press the power button to power on the computer.
