How to install and register Oracle Rman Plugin for Linux (64 bits). Reference Dell Knowledge Article Number 198637. This video was created to demonstrate: How to install and register Oracle RMAN plugin for Linux.
General steps that will be accomplished: One, open Avamar Server Home Page. Two, download the Avamar Client and Avamar RMAN plugin.
Three, install the two plugins on the Oracle Box. Four, register the Oracle Box with Avamar, and five, run a test backup. This process should be followed when the Avamar RMAN plugin is deployed on an Oracle server.
Before you begin you will need the following: PuTTY and WinSCP available. The IP and Fully Qualified Domain Name for the Oracle Box and Avamar Server.
Have root credentials for the Oracle Box, and have MCUser credentials for the Avamar Server. Open the Avamar home page using Google Chrome.
Click "Downloads". Expand "Linux for x86" for "64 bits". Expand the operating system that matches the Oracle Production Environment that will be protected.
Click the Avamar Client RPM to download it to the local computer. Then, click the Avamar RMAN plugin to be downloaded as well. Open WinSCP and transfer the two downloaded packages to the Oracle Production computer.
Close WinSCP after the transfer is done. Log in as root to the Oracle Production Computer using PuTTY. Change to the directory where to two packages were uploaded.
Install first the Avamar Client plugin, using Linux "rpm" command. Then install the RMAN plug in using "rpm" command as well. Change to the Avamar installed binary directory. Run AV register.
Enter Avamar server name or IP and press enter. Enter Avamar domain name for this client and press enter. Switch to Avamar and click on "Avamar Web UI".
Expand the menu by clicking on the two greater-than signs. Click on "Asset Management". Click on the Avamar domain used when AV register was run.
Select the Oracle Production box and do a test backup. Click on "Backup" to initiate the test. Expand "Linux Oracle RMAN". Select the database that will be used in the test and click "Next".
Verify the parameters, and click "Next". Check the parameters in this new page and click "Finish". Click on "View Activity" to monitor the backup.
Click on the activity and wait until the backup is completed. Completed under the status column means the backup is successful.
