In this video, you will learn how to deploy the PowerProtect Reporting Engine software on a virtual machine. The Reporting Engine software enables you to monitor and analyze the data protection activities across your PowerProtect environment. By the end of this video, you’ll be able to access reports from the Report Browser with ease. For more Information, check our Knowledge Base click here.
Today we will configure and deploy the reporting engine in PowerProtect Data Manager. Before we begin please ensure that you deploy the reporting engine on a separate virtual machine. The vCenter server must be added as an asset source from Infrastructure > Asset Sources.
The virtual machine requires 500 GB to function properly. It is recommended that you deploy the reporting engine to the vCenter server that hosts PowerProtect Data Manager. To verify the hosting vCenter click on the Settings > Hosting vCenter link. Provide the details for the vCenter server that hosts PowerProtect Data Manager or select the hosting vCenter server from asset sources. Now let's start the process. From the PowerProtect Data Manager UI select Reports > Reporting Engine. Click on Configure.
The Configure Reporting Engine dialog box will open. In the Configure Reporting Engine dialog box complete the required fields. Specify the vCenter server on which to deploy the reporting engine. If you specified the hosting vCenter server PowerProtect Data Manager populates the fields with the required information. Select on which cluster or ESXi host you want to configure the reporting engine. Specify the fully qualified domain name (FQDN). Note that only IPv4 addresses are supported for IP address Gateway Netmask and Primary DNS.
The Network field displays all the networks that are available under the selected ESXi host or cluster. For virtual networks (VLANs) this network carries Management traffic. The Data Store field displays all datastores that are accessible to the selected ESXi host or cluster. Select the datastore. Click on Deploy. PowerProtect Data Manager starts the configuration process. Go to Reporting Engine to check the status.
You can also go to the System Jobs window to monitor the progress of the configuration job. When the process is complete a notification appears in the Reporting Engine window to indicate that the configuration is successful. You can now access reports from Reports > Report Browser. There you can click the Generate button at the report of your choice.
