Wireless technology has certainly influenced the way professionals conduct their day-to-day activities, especially the road warrior, for whom speed can determine success. With the variety of wireless options on the market today, road warriors and other busy professionals can maintain a fast pace and share information with a remarkable ease and convenience.
The three types of wireless systems are wi-fi, which is if you're at a workplace, an office environment, and you need connectivity away from your desk without a cable, for instance, if you're going to a meeting, or if you need connectivity at a remote location. Bluetooth is a wireless that enables a clutter free work space so that I can use my mouse without having a wire, a keyboard, or even a printer and avoid all the cables that could clutter up a desk.
The third wireless option is mobile broadband, and that's particularly useful for road warriors or sales professionals that are on the go and they need access to the internet anywhere that they could get access on their cell phone. So even in a taxi, they could be working on their business.
Wi-fi is standard in most computers. Bluetooth accessories range in price, but most are under $50 for bluetooth components. Mobile broadband, initially starting out, is $150 to $180 depending on the carrier selected, and Dell offers all three carriers, Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T.
And there's an additional monthly charge of $60 for maintaining that service moving forward. >> The value mobile broadband can add to a small business owner on the go is undeniable. Communication and information exchange with the office, customers, or vendors is now just as seamless as making a cell phone call.
If you need mobile broadband -- for instance, this evening I'm traveling to one of our call centers located in Nashville, and I never know if there's going to be a flight that's going to be delayed or if I'm going to have a quick 15 minutes to check the internet and keep the flow of traffic moving so we can have speed of response on our solutions to our customers.
But paying a $60 monthly fee is, one, it's a lot more economical than $10 at the hotel, $10 at the airport, maybe trying to -- spending time to find a Starbucks where there's a wi-fi access.
But more than just the money, which can add up as you're traveling more and more, it's the ability to have it at my fingertips and be able to have it right then and there. That for me is very invaluable.
As more and more business is conducted on the go, wi-fi, bluetooth, and mobile broadband technologies enable business professionals to meet the demands of their business. Without these technologies, business, as we know it, would be far slower, less productive, and less exciting.
