Firmware updates improve performance and reliability. Here's how to keep up to date. You'll need a bootable, DOS USB flash drive, the MegaCli update tool, and the firmware binary. Choose an application to create your bootable drive, for example Rufus, or the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool.
We're using Rufus, but you can substitute any utility that produces a bootable DOS environment. Got to lsi.com, then select "support". Search for "megacli". Expand the "Management Software and Tools" section. Locate and download MegaCLI for DOS. Now search for "9271". Expand the "Firmware" section and locate the MegaRAID firmware.
Check the "readme" file for compatability with your card, and the command syntax for the update. Download the firmware update. Extract the MegaCLI utility and firmware Copy both files to your USB drive With the power switched off, insert the bootable flash drive in the PC containing your card.
Switch the power on, and press "F12" to enter the one time boot menu. Select the USB drive. At the command prompt, enter the update command When the update is complete, restart the PC. Confirm the correct firmware version is displayed.
