In this video, I will be showing you how to add devices to your support, assist, install to begin, we will need to create the account credentials for our Idrac. You can find this area under the device's menu, click on the add credentials link and then we'll need to fill out the data for our ir note that the device type does not have to be I drag but that is what we're currently using. Once complete. We will then need to create a profile that can be used with these credentials. This is also under the device menu. Click the create profile link, give the profile a name and choose the account credentials that we created earlier.
There is also a section at the bottom for creating credentials. Once this is complete, we can then go back and tell support, assist to connect to the ome appliance. We will need to click the setup adapter link. And from here, we can choose oy the following fields need to be filled in and we can now choose the credential profile we created earlier. The customer will also be able to choose when the device inventory updates. Please be aware that it will take several minutes for this to complete with even only a few systems. If the customer has a large number of systems, they are importing from open manage. This could take more than an hour to complete. I will skip ahead. So you can see the finished results.
As you can see all the nodes from open managed enterprise have been imported into support assist. Now, let's say the customer doesn't have over managed enterprise but they have many systems to add. They can choose to discover multiple devices option from here. We will create a new discovery rule type a name and choose the credential profile we created earlier. The customer can choose between adding an IP range or they can simply paste in a group of ips that are separated by commas. I will be choosing the second option as I only have two devices, you can specify how this discovery rule will run and when it will occur, I'm going to choose run now since I don't need this to recur and I want these to import immediately.
Generally, we will want to leave the defaults to allow for S and MP monitoring. When satisfied click, add a rule, the rule will run immediately based on our previous choices and we will need to wait several minutes for everything to complete. Once the discovery rule status is complete, it may still be required to wait an additional several minutes for all devices to become available and to finish being configured, the devices will not allow you to view their status and will show a red circle with a line through it until it is finished. Inventorying the device once complete, you may run into an error. Like this one. Typically, what we will see is an inability to configure the S and MP settings on the remote system. I will go over how to fix this kind of issue On another video. Let's say a customer has only a single system. They need to add.
There is an option at the initial welcome screen when no devices have been added. But there is also the option to add a single device from the screen. We are currently on, click on the blue plus sign above our devices. This will allow you to add a single device. The fields here are similar to what we have seen before. Choose the appropriate settings such as device type being Idrac and the credentials needed that were created earlier. After a few minutes, you will be asked to assign the device to a group. We did not create one. So I would choose the default group for now. Once the device has been added, you may need to wait some additional time for the inventory process to complete.
We'll wrap this video by going over discovery of an OS. We'll be creating the account credential and profile the same way as the ID drag. You'll notice that windows is not an option here on the 4.0 appliance only Linux and VMWARE. I'll be choosing ESX I here. You'll need to expand the server slash hypervisor section to add in the appropriate credential. Now that we have our profile created, we can discover the device for ESX. I be sure that SSH is enabled on the host prior to discovery where it will fail, press finish to continue and then press. OK. And we're finished with the discovery.
Thank you for viewing this training video for support, assist enterprise.
