Dell Data Protection Security Tools Using One-Time Password for Recovery (For Windows Only) System Pre-requisites: The Dell Data Protection Security Tools Administrator must enable one-time-password use ahead of time. OTP can be used either for password recovery, or for Windows authentication, but not both.
Individual users must have already paired their mobile device with their computer to use this feature. This is covered in another tutorial. Refer to the product documentation for complete details and best practices. Log on using OTP This solution is for use with Windows computers, Android IOS or Windows mobile devices.
If allowed by policy and the OTP symbol displays on your Windows logon screen, You can login using the One-time password generated on your mobile device.
On the computer at the Windows Logon screen, Select the OTP icon. On the mobile device, open the DDP mobile app and enter its PIN. Select the computer you want to access. A mobile device may be paired with more than one computer.
Tap One-Time Password. A password displays on the mobile device screen. If necessary, click the Refresh symbol to get a new code. Use caution as too many refreshes will cause the mobile device and computer to get out of sync.
On the computer at the Windows logon screen, type the password provided by the mobile device and press Enter. This one-time password cannot be used again. Once accepted, the computer will enter Recovery mode.
Here the user is guided through the process to reset the Windows password. This concludes the demonstration: Windows Password Recovery using One-Time Password From a Paired Mobile Device For additional information, contact Dell ProSupport at Dell.com/support.
