Before working inside your computer:
Save and close all open files and exit all open applications.
Shut down your computer. For Windows operating system, click Start > Power button Power > Shut down.
NOTE: If you are using a different operating system, see the documentation of your operating system for shut-down instructions.
Disconnect your computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets.
Disconnect all attached network devices and peripherals, such as keyboard, mouse, and monitor from your computer.
CAUTION: To disconnect a network cable, first unplug the cable from your computer and then unplug the cable from the network device.
Remove any media card and optical disc from your computer, if applicable.
Removing the NVMe Flexbay:
Remove the:
side cover
NOTE: Do not remove the side cover, if the front I/O bezel is unlocked.
HDD bezel
NOTE: Remove only the HDD bezel.
To remove the NVMe flexbay :
Press the release button [1] to unlock the latch [2].
Pull the latch to slide the carrier out of the HDD slot.
To remove the SSD carrier from the NVMe flexbay:
Press the release button to slide the M.2 SSD carrier out of the NVMe flexbay.
Pull the M.2 SSD carrier out of the NVMe flexbay.
To remove the SSD from the SSD carrier:
Remove the screws on either side of the SSD.
Remove the screw from the top of the SSD carrier.
Slide the SSD cover from the top of the carrier.
Slide the SSD out of the M.2 slot on the carrier.
Installing the NVMe flexbay:
To install the SSD in the carrier:
NOTE: NVMe Flexbay uses a SSD backplane and drop cables for installing the SSDs. HDD backplane is not compatible with the NVMe flexbay.
Remove the dummy SSD blank from the SSD carrier.
Peel off the tape from the SSD carrier.
Peel off the adhesive tape from the SSD carrier cover.
Install the SSD in the carrier
Replace the two side screws and the central screw.
To install the SSD carrier slide the carrier in the NVMe flexbay until it clicks in place.
Slide the carrier into the drive bay until it clicks into place.
CAUTION: Ensure that the latch is open before installing the carrier.
Lock the latch.
Install the following components:
HDD bezel
side cover
Follow the procedure in After working inside your computer.
CAUTION: Leaving stray or loose screws inside your computer may severely damage your computer.
Replace all screws and ensure that no stray screws remain inside your computer.
Connect any external devices, peripherals, or cables you removed before working on your computer.
Replace any media cards, discs, or any other parts that you removed before working on your computer.
Connect your computer and all attached devices to their electrical outlets.
Turn on your computer.
