In this video, we'll demonstrate how to replace the WWAN card. Before removing the WWAN card, read through the safety guidelines to protect your computer from potential damage and ensure your personal safety. To begin, remove the SD card if applicable. Push the micro-SD card to eject it from the slot and remove the SD card from the computer. To remove the SIM card tray, insert the SIM card removal pin into the release hole. Now push the pin to disengage the lock and eject the SIM card tray. Slide the SIM card tray out of the slot on the computer. To enter Service Mode, shut down the computer and disconnect the AC adapter.
Now, open the display. Press and hold the B key on the keyboard, and then press the power button for 3 seconds until the Dell logo appears on the screen. Now, the computer will boot up and the Owner Tag screen is displayed. Press any key to proceed. The computer will emit three short beeps and shut down to enter Service Mode.
Now, turn the computer over and loosen the eight captive screws that secure the base cover to the computer. Using the flat end of a plastic scribe, pry open the base cover starting from the recesses that are in the U-shaped indents near the hinges at the top edge of the base cover.
Do not lift the base cover from the top side immediately after prying it from the recesses, as this will cause damage to the base cover. Work your way around the sides of the base cover. Then, hold the left and right sides of the base cover, and remove the base cover from the computer.
Now, let’s remove the WWAN card. To begin, loosen the single captive screw securing the WWAN-card bracket to the system board and lift the WWAN-card bracket away from the computer. Carefully, disconnect the antenna cables from the connectors on the WWAN card. Use a plastic scribe at the recess point on the lower right corner of the WWAN card to pry open the WWAN card shield covering the card.
Now lift the WWAN card shield covering the card away from the computer. At this point, gently slide and lift the WWAN card away from the WWAN card slot on the system board. You have successfully removed the WWAN card. Now, let’s see how to install the WWAN card. To begin, align the notches on the WWAN card with the tabs on the WWAN card slot and insert the card into the slot on the system board.
Align and place the WWAN-card shield covering the WWAN card and press to fit it firmly. Now, connect the antenna cables to its connectors on the WWAN card as indicated by the color chart provided on the shield cover. Align and place the WWAN-card bracket on the WWAN card and tighten the single captive screw to secure the card to the system board. Align and place the base cover on the palm-rest assembly.
Gently press the edges and sides of the base cover until it clicks into place. Now, tighten the eight captive screws to secure the base cover to the computer. To install the SIM card tray, slide the SIM card tray back into the slot on the computer.
If one was present, insert the micro-SD card back into its slot until it clicks into place Now, connect the AC adapter and press the power button to power on the computer. The computer will now exit from Service Mode. For more information, see the Service Manual at: Dell.com/Support
