This video shows how to remove and install the primary M.2 2230 SSD on the Precision 7560 and Precision 7760. Note: For Precision 7560, Slot 3 and slot 5 supports PCIe Gen3, Optane, and SATA Solid-state drive.
For Precision 7760, Slot 3, slot 4, and slot 5 supports PCIe Gen3, Optane, and SATA Solid-state drive. Before you begin, ensure that you create a recovery drive and back up all data.
Turn off your computer and disconnect all attached peripherals and if present remove the SD card. Ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the computer.
To begin, loosen the eight captive screws that secure the base cover to the computer. For computers shipped without a SmartCard reader, pry open the base cover starting from the recess at the bottom edge of the cover.
For models shipped with SmartCard reader, pry open the base cover from the SmartCard reader slot at the bottom right side of the base cover. Use your fingers to pry open the base cover as the use of plastic scribe or any other sharp objects may damage the base cover.
Lift the base cover starting from the bottom edge and push it towards the rear to remove it from the computer. Note: Do not lift the base cover directly upwards to remove, as this may damage the rear edge of the cover.
After removing the base cover, if any of the thermal pads for the M.2 SSD, WWAN card, and/or inner frame are detached, adhere them to their correct slot on the computer.
Disconnect the battery cable. Now let’s remove the primary M.2-2230 solid-state drive. Remove the screw that secures the M.2 SSD thermal plate to the M.2 SSD module.
Now carefully tilt at an angle and then slide to remove the M.2 SSD thermal plate from the slots on the inner frame. Now remove the screw that secures the M.2 SSD module to the computer.
Remove the M.2 2230 SSD module. Remove the screw that secures the SSD to SSD holder and then remove the SSD from the holder. You have successfully removed the primary M.2 2230 solid-state drive.
Repeat the steps to remove the other M.2 SSD modules in the computer. Now, let’s install the primary M.2 2230 solid-state drive. To begin, place the M.2 2230 SSD into the SSD holder.
Replace the screw to secure the M.2 SSD to the holder. Place the M.2 SSD module onto its slot on the computer and replace the screw to secure the module.
Carefully align and insert the two tabs on the M.2 SSD thermal plate into the slots on the inner frame to secure the thermal plate in place. Now replace the screw to secure the SSD thermal plate to the M.2 SSD module.
Repeat the above steps to install the other M.2 SSD modules in the computer. Connect the battery cable to the connector on the system board. Re-install the base cover by aligning and placing the base cover on the computer.
Align the screw holes on the base cover with the screw holes on the computer chassis, and then snap the base cover into place. Now tighten the eight captive screws to secure the base cover to the computer.
If present, insert the SD card into the SD card slot. You can now connect all the peripherals. For more information or support about Precision 7560 and 7760 systems, visit Dell.com/Support.
