In this video, we will demonstrate how to replace the M.2 2280 Solid-State Drive, with an M.2 2230 Solid-State Drive in Slot 1. Before removing the SSD, read through the safety guidelines to protect your computer from potential damage and ensure your personal safety. Turn off your computer and disconnect all attached peripherals.
To begin, turn the computer over and loosen the two captive screws. Remove the seven screws that secure the base cover to the palm rest and keyboard assembly. Using the flat end of a plastic scribe, pry the base cover, starting from the recess at the hinge area, and work your way around.
Lift and remove the base cover off the palm rest and keyboard assembly. Disconnect the battery cable from the connector on the system board. Turn the computer over, and open the display. Press and hold the Power button for 5 seconds to ground the computer and drain the flea power. After draining the flea power, close the display and turn the computer over. Now, let's remove the M.2 2280 from slot 1 and install the M.2 2230.
Remove the single screw that secures the SSD to the palm rest and keyboard assembly. Now, slide and remove the SSD from the SSD slot on the system board. Slide and remove the SSD mounting bracket from the mounting bracket slot. Rotate the solid-state drive mounting bracket into the mounting slot on the palm rest and keyboard assembly, so as to accommodate the M.2 2230 SSD.
To begin, gently slide the SSD into the SSD slot on the system board. Replace the single screw to secure the SSD to the palm rest and keyboard assembly. Connect the battery cable to the connector on the system board. Align and place the base cover on the palm rest and keyboard assembly. Gently press the edges and sides of the base cover until it clicks into place.
Now, tighten the two captive screws, and replace the seven screws to secure the base cover to the palm rest and keyboard assembly. You have now successfully replaced the M.2 2280 solid-state drive with an M.2 2230 solid-state drive in slot 1 You can now connect all peripherals, and turn on your computer.
