Replacing a memory stick is a relatively simple procedure. The first step is ensuring all power connections and external cables are disconnected.
Next, we will remove the side panel to allow us to see inside of the computer. Most Dell systems can be opened without tools. This Optiplex desktop can be opened by sliding this latch to the left. Locate the memory, and press the latches down on either side of the stick.
The memory stick will pop up from the slot, allowing you to remove it. You've now successfully removed the memory stick from the desktop. To install the memory stick, align the notch in the memory to the one in the slot and insert it. Once inserted, press down on the memory while locking the latches on either side.
Slip the side cover on to the chassis, and apply gentle pressure until you see and hear it lock in to place. Congratulations! You have now installed a new memory stick. To ensure the memory stick is detected and working your your system, you will need to power it up.
Your Dell Desktop should boot to the installed operating system. If you are installing an upgrade, you may see a message indicating the amount of system memory has changed. Press F1 to continue.
If your system does not power on, remove and reseat the memory to ensure it is firmly installed.
