This CRU demonstration covers replacing a DPE and battery backup unit in a VNXe. Covered in this demonstration is the removal of the faulted component and the installation of the replacement.
For procedure detail, you’ll need to reference the documentation. Shown here is a view of the back of my system. Once identified, let’s go ahead and remove the faulted component. But, please note that for the purpose of this demonstration I’ll be using an unracked system.
The first thing we want to do before we remove the SP from the DPE is label and disconnect all the network cables. Unseat the SP, by releasing the orange levers on each side of the SP assembly. We can use the latches to pull the assembly out of the SP. You should probably use both hands to completely slide the SP out of the DPE.
Next, we’ll remove the SP’s top cover and we’ll push the blue button, slide the top cover back and off. To remove the BBU what we want to do is press the white tabs on each side of the cable connector and gently pull outward to release it from the processor board.
You might need to gently wiggle it to unseat it from the processor. Push the blue locking tab on the back of the BBU and then carefully pull it from the carrier. Install the BBU by sliding it into the carrier on the SP and then attach the cable connector to the board. Replace the top cover. We’ll align it to the top of the SP and slide it into place.
Now we’ll install the SP assembly. Slide the SP assembly until the levers catch on the DPE frame. And then close the right and left latches which will seat the SP assembly into the enclosure.
If the SP doesn’t start powering up, you might need to pull the SP back out and reseat it into the DPE. This concludes the demonstration. Next, you want to check the System Health page and Unisphere to ensure the new part is marked with a status OK icon.
