In this video, we show how to replace the E3 backplane in a PowerEdge R670. Before removing the backplane, read through and follow the safety guidelines to protect your system from potential damage and ensure your personal safety. In order to remove the backplane, you first need to remove the cover and drive backplane cover. To remove the cover, rotate the lock counterclockwise to unlock it, lift the latch to release the cover, then remove it from the system.
To remove the drive backplane cover, slide it towards the back of the system and remove. To remove the backplane, be sure to remove any drives and drive blanks and make note of the drive location and order. Next, disconnect the power and data cables. Then loosen the two captive screws. Slide the backplane forward and lift it out of the system.
To install the backplane, align it to the post and slide it back. Then tighten 2 captive screws. Connect the power and data cables. Be sure to replace any remove drives and drive blanks in their original locations. To install the backplane cover, align it on the system and slide it forward into place.
