In this video you will learn to reschedule the Dell Data Domain Filesystem Cleaning schedule, modify the Filesystem Cleaning throttle, and reset the configuration to default settings.
Welcome to Dell Technologies Data Domain. How to Series.
How to Configure Data Domain Filesystem Cleaning Schedule. Reference Dell Knowledge Base Article # 000012089.
This video was created to: demonstrate how the Data Domain filesystem cleaning schedule can be rescheduled. Show the method to modify the filesystem cleaning throttle.
And show the method to reset the filesystem cleaning configuration to the default settings. Before you begin: The filesystem cleaning operation reclaims physical storage occupied by deleted objects in the Data Domain file system.
A default cleaning configuration runs the clean operation every Tuesday at 6 AM with 50% throttle. Let's begin. Log in to Data Domain command line interface using your username and password.
To check the Data Domain filesystem cleaning schedule, use command "filesys clean show schedule". Here, the filesystem cleaning is scheduled to run on every Tuesday at 6 AM.
In order to reschedule the filesystem cleaning, use command "filesys clean set schedule", followed by the day and time. Here, the time should be in hours and minutes.
The cleaning has been rescheduled to run on every Saturday at 4 PM. If you wish to schedule cleaning twice in a month, you may use command, "filesys clean set schedule monthly", followed by the days and time.
Here, we schedule the cleaning to run on the 1st and 15th day of every month at 8 AM. To run cleaning biweekly or in every two weeks, you may use the command, "filesys clean set schedule", biweekly, followed by the day and time.
That would schedule the cleaning to run once in every two weeks. Here, we have scheduled the cleaning to run in every two weeks on Sunday at 5 AM.
If you wish to not schedule cleaning, you may choose to set the schedule to "never" using command, "filesys clean set schedule never". Here, the cleaning schedule has been set to run "never".
In order to reset the filesystem cleaning schedule back to the default, you may use command, "filesys clean reset sched". This should reset the cleaning schedule to the default time, which is Tuesday 6 AM. The cleaning schedule has been reset to the default time.
To check the cleaning throttle configured on Data Domain, use command, "filesys clean show throttle". The cleaning throttle has been set to 50%, which is also the default throttle.
To change or modify the throttle, use command, "filesys clean set throttle". Here, the cleaning throttle has been increased to 90%. To reset the cleaning throttle to the default, use command, "filesys clean reset throttle".
The cleaning throttle has been reset back to the default. Important notes: It is not recommended to run cleaning frequently or more than once in a week.
Running clean frequently will impact replication or restore performance. Increasing the clean throttle may impact backup performance.
Thank you for watching.
